Specifications Writer

Summary:

This position is for a highly experienced, detail-oriented individual to serve as Specifications Writer.

​

Experience & Education:

  • 5 -10 Years Professional Experience

  • BA/BS in Architecture

  • Registered Architect not required, but preferred

  • CDT and CCS Certifications not required but preferred. 

  • LEED Accreditation or interest in sustainable design is preferred but not required 

​

Essential Skills:

  • Detail-oriented, reliable self-starter with collaborative nature

  • Strong written & verbal communication, task management, and organizational skills

  • Motivated team player with ability to communicate with all levels of staff, clients, and consultants

  • Familiar with LEED Requirements, Building Codes.

  • Technical writing.

  • Facile in the use of Word, including MasterWorks (MasterSpec), Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu.

  • Versed in assembling project manuals for bidding construction projects.

  • Knowledge of construction detailing, and construction administration experience is essential.

  • Ability to successfully engage in client communication

  • Familiarity with REVIT is preferred, soon specifications and modeling will be interlinked

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure accurate, high-quality documentation

  • Act as Quality Assurance/Quality Control Reviewer for Projects

  • Coordinate specifications with consulting engineers

  • Mentor staff members as appropriate with regards to detailing, documentation, design, or other personalized knowledge bases by way of one-on-one interactions, in-house seminars, or whitepapers

  • Attend continuing education seminars to advance skillsets

  • Write/assemble Project Manuals, integral to Contract Documents. This includes the selection and editing of Division 00 Contract forms and the editing of Division 01 sections, and all technical Divisions as required for each project. 

  • Tailor specification sections based on drawing review, prior to PM review of specifications

  • Review specification checklists with project managers/architects. 

  • Work with project teams and owner representatives to develop front end specifications.  

  • Coordinate Project Manual with MEP, Civil, Structural and Environmental disciplines. 

  • Assist project teams in the development of Addenda and RFI responses during the bidding process.  

  • Assist the project teams in the review of shop drawing submittals and RFI’s periodically. 

  • Conduct post-project evaluations with project managers to update specification language. 

  • Conduct Quality Control Review of projects before they are bid. 

  • Provide Construction Administration services of local projects during the construction season when needed. 

  • Maintain libraries of specifications, including: 

    • Masterworks (periodic updates). 

    • Legacy MCF specifications. 

    • Front-end libraries for major clients. 

  • Uphold standards of quality embedded in MCF projects

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Autodesk Revit

  • Microsoft Office Suite
